Are you wasting budget on the wrong conferences?

Conferences are expensive. Both from a cost and resource perspective. Your team can't attend all of them but must attend some of them.

Once you make a decision on which conferences to prioritize, you have to justify that choice to your senior leadership team and cross functional colleagues.

So….how do you choose which conferences to invest in?

Most medical affairs professionals are scientist by training. Deeply analytical, most comfortable when there is logic to back up a decision.  What if you applied that to your conference prioritization to ensure maximum KOL engagement by your team?

I use this simple equation with my clients to help them choose the right conferences and maximise KOL engagement opportunities.

Conference Prioritisation Factor = (A + B) / C

  • A. % of attendees that are target KOLs*

  • B. Number of relevant presentations

  • C. Cost of conference per MSL (include travel costs as well as registration costs)

If you’d like a ready-to-use Excel template (with formulas pre-loaded) that calculates this for you, click here to download and make a copy so you can edit the sheet.

*I used a % because you could have 5 target KOLs in a sea of 1000 KOLs leaving very little opportunity for interaction or 3 target KOLs in a group of 50 KOLs meaning lots of potential for high value interaction.
